The fragility of life

We have been reminded of the fragility of life in the most brutal of ways. The boys and their friends all flew west for a fishing weekend and not all got home.

And while I didn’t lose a close friend like my brother or wonderful fishing companions like my husband and son, I will never again hear stories about how he was always the one who caught big fish when no one else even got a nibble (and has pictures to prove it!) and how she was so unfailingly welcoming that they felt they had known her forever.

But we all learnt lessons about being grateful for what we have and to take quiet enjoyment in the bravery of everyday living.

The difficulty lies is remembering these lessons…

Oh, and if one more unthinking person tells me how dangerous flying light planes is, I’ll scream!
